“Name Our Mascot” Contest – Official Rules & Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility

The “Name Our Mascot” Contest (the “Contest”) is open to legal residents of British Columbia, Canada, who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry. Employees, representatives, and agents of 88 Supermarket, its affiliated companies, subsidiaries, advertising or promotional agencies, and the immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling) or household members of such persons are not eligible to participate. By entering, participants agree to abide by these Official Rules and by the decisions of 88 Supermarket, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

2. Contest Period

The Contest will take place during the following period:

• Call for Entries: November 24 – December 7, 2025
• Public Voting Period: December 15 – December 21, 2025
• Winner Reveal: December 28, 2025

All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on December 7, 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.

3. How to Enter

No purchase is necessary to participate. To enter, participants must submit a proposed name for the new 88 Supermarket mascot along with a brief explanation or reason behind the name. 

Entries may be submitted through one of the following methods:

Instagram/Facebook Submission:

1. Follow 88 Supermarket’s Instagram (@88_supermarket) or Facebook (@88supermarket) page.
2. Like the official Contest post on 88 Supermarket’s Instagram (@88_supermarket) or Facebook (@88supermarket) page.
3. Comment your proposed mascot name and a short explanation or meaning behind it.
4. Tag three (3) friends in your comment to spread the fun!

Each participant may submit only one (1) entry on either platform. Multiple entries or the use of multiple accounts may result in disqualification. Entries that are incomplete, inappropriate, offensive, or in violation of these Rules will not be accepted.

4. Submission Requirements

All entries must be original to the participant and must not infringe upon any copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property rights of any third party. Entries must be family-friendly and free from offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate content. By submitting an entry, participants affirm that their submission is original and grant 88 Supermarket permission to use their name suggestion and accompanying explanation in accordance with these Official Rules.

5. Selection of Finalists and Winner

Following the submission deadline, a panel of judges from the 88 Supermarket management team will review all eligible entries. The judging panel will select five (5) finalist names based on the following criteria:

• Relevance to the mascot and 88 Supermarket brand,
• Creativity and originality, and
• Connection to 88 Supermarket’s community values.

The five (5) finalist names will then be opened for public voting during the Public Voting Period (December 15–21, 2025). Voting will take place both online (via social media) and in-store (via QR code voting).

The name receiving the highest total votes will be declared the official mascot name. In the event of a tie or dispute, 88 Supermarket reserves the right to make the final decision. All judging and voting results are final and binding.

6. Prizes

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

• First Place (Winning Name): $88 88 Supermarket Gift Card
• Second and Third Place: $50 88 Supermarket Gift Card each
• Fourth and Fifth Place: $25 88 Supermarket Gift Card each

The total prize value for this Contest is $238 CAD. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are not exchangeable, transferable, or redeemable for cash. 88 Supermarket reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if necessary due to availability.

7. Winner Notification

Finalists will be contacted via direct message on Instagram or Facebook. If a finalist cannot be reached within five (5) business days of notification, an alternate finalist may be selected at the Sponsor’s discretion.

The final winning name and all prize recipients will be announced on December 28, 2025, through 88 Supermarket’s social media channels and in-store displays.

8. Rights Granted by Participants

By submitting an entry, each participant grants 88 Supermarket a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, and unrestricted license to use their submitted name, accompanying explanation, and their first name or social media handle for promotional purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, use on social media, the company website, advertising materials, and in-store displays, without further notice or compensation.

Participants acknowledge that the winning name will become the exclusive property of 88 Supermarket and may be used for any future branding, marketing, or commercial purposes. Entrants waive any and all claims to royalties, ownership, or additional compensation.

9. General Conditions

This Contest and these Official Rules shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising from or related to this Contest shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia.

88 Supermarket reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Contest in the event of technical issues, fraud, or any circumstances beyond its reasonable control that compromise the fairness or integrity of the Contest. Any attempt to tamper with or manipulate the Contest process may result in disqualification. All decisions made by 88 Supermarket regarding eligibility, judging, and prize allocation are final and binding.

10. Publicity & Privacy

By entering, each participant consents to the use of their name, username, likeness, and city of residence for publicity purposes related to this Contest, without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

Each winner further agrees to appear in photos or short videos taken by 88 Supermarket during prize collection and grants permission for these materials to be posted on 88 Supermarket’s Instagram, Facebook, website, or other digital channels for promotional use.

Personal information collected for this Contest will be used solely for administering the promotion and will be handled in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of British Columbia.

11. Limitation of Liability

By participating, entrants agree to release and hold harmless 88 Supermarket, its affiliates, employees, and agents from any liability or claim arising out of participation in the Contest, acceptance or use of any prize, or the use of the submitted name. 88 Supermarket is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or incomplete entries, nor for any technical or human errors that may occur in the administration of the Contest.

12. Social Media Disclaimer

This Contest is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, Meta, Instagram, or Facebook. Participants release Meta, Instagram, and Facebook from any responsibility or liability arising from participation in this Contest.

14. Sponsor

The “Name Our Mascot” Contest is organized and administered by 88 Supermarket (the “Sponsor”), with store locations in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Contest aims to engage the community in naming 88 Supermarket’s new mascot and celebrate creativity, connection, and cultural pride.
